Straight Talk

"I think Cung Le needs some more time and experience. I don’t think it is a good fight right now because I would just smash him and ruin his progress. Everyone is pushing for Cung because he has been very exciting so far. I think it would be a waste of money and it would crush him when I crush him. I would like to wait till 2009 for that fight. I don’t really know who is on the horizon right now. Robbie Lawler’s name has been thrown around, but I am good with whoever they decide."

- Strikeforce middleweight champ Frank Shamrock

I agree that 1) a Shamrock-Le fight would be exciting, 2) Le could definitely use some more experience, especially against better competition, before challenging Shamrock, and 3) Shamrock would smash him.

Strikeforce Middleweight Tournament

On November 16, Strikeforce will hold a one-night, four-man middleweight tournament at the HP Pavilion in San Jose featuring Falaniko Vitale, Trevor Prangley, Yuki Sasaki, and Jorge Santiago.

Rumored to have been in the tournament was Joe "Diesel" Riggs, who withdrew last week and appears to be officially out of the tournament.

Tournament fights will consist of two five-minute rounds, with an overtime round added if necessary. MMAWeekly is reporting that the winner of this tournament may earn a shot at Strikeforce middleweight champ Frank Shamrock. (I'd rather see Cung Le get a title shot, but what do I know.)

IFL Releases Shamrock & Razorclaws

MMAWeekly is reporting that the IFL has released the San Jose Razorclaws, as well as its coach, Frank Shamrock.

"They said they were going a different direction with their business. They're good people and they're a good company. They've got a hard road ahead of them. I'm still willing to help in any way because they treated me real good," Shamrock said.

As for his old team, Shamrock expressed little confidence in former Razorclaws finding success elsewhere within the IFL: "I think they cut everybody but Brian Foster and he's in the Grand Prix, so he's got his chance coming up. I think they're going to reassign him to a new team. He's got a couple of teams that he has the option to go to."

I'm sure the rest of the Razorclaws appreciate that vote of confidence, coach!

Shamrock also told MMAWeekly that he and New York Pitbulls coach Renzo Gracie will rematch in April, that Shamrock and his wife are expecting a baby in May, and that he will "probably fight again in (or around) September."

The Gospel of Frank Shamrock

The latest issue of RealFighter magazine (Issue 15) features a pretty cool article on MMA legend Frank Shamrock. Shamrock once again had plenty to say and seems to always give his haters something to chew on. I happen to be a Frank Shamrock fan, but for those who are not, prepare for your panties to be bunched...

I will knock everybody out in MMA.

I don't put any resistance into fighting the takedown because I am better on the ground than anyone else.

Vitor (Belfort) is so easy to beat, and psychologically, he's so fragile. I would beat Vitor before I ever got in the ring.

I would knock him (Ken Shamrock) out. It would take a little while.

He (Anderson Silva) is a good stylist, but he has huge holes on the ground. A guy like that, you quick jab, power right him, step over, and tie him up.

Tito (Ortiz) turns and runs when he gets hit. Phil (Baroni) is a frickin man. Phil stands there and bangs it out. That's how people should fight MMA.

Frank Shamrock Casting Reality Show

Frank Shamrock and the Shamrock Submission Fight Team are apparently holding a casting call on July 22, for an upcoming reality TV show that will begin taping in August.

And exactly whom are they looking to cast? Check out this message posted on Shamrock’s official site:

If you are a 150 lb. male with a checkered past and an interest in MMA fighting, please bring a recent photo and a one-page bio to the casting call."

So there you have it. If you live or will be in the San Jose area this weekend, bring your 150-lb. frame and your checkered past on by to Shamrock Martial Arts Academy (5725 Winfield Blvd., Suite 1, San Jose) between 12-4 PM.

Straight Talk

"I knew he'd fight until the end. Phil's a warrior, man. I mean Phil proved to me - I thought I would destroy Phil - and he proved to me that he's one of the toughest guys in MMA. He's got the toughest jaw I've ever seen, and he's got meat hooks on his hands. I think he came out huge on this, and my head is misshapened and swollen from getting punched."

- Franks Shamrock on Phil Baroni.

"I am a professional martial artist, and I am a professional fighter. Phil is a professional idiot. He is a mid-grade opponent."

- Frank Shamrock on his June 23 opponent, Phil "The New York Bad Ass" Baroni

(I hope that Baroni knocks Snamrock's head into the men's room. But that's just me...)
