A source close to the famed Chute Boxe camp told UFCJunkie that former UFC 205-lb. champion Chuck Liddell and former Pride 205-lb. champion Wanderlei Silva have verbally agreed to a UFC 76 (September 22) fight.
The Chute Boxe source says that the fight will be official once Wanderlei returns to U.S. soil and signs the contract, the "numbers" of which have been reportedly agreed upon. Silva is currently in Brazil, where last week, he and other MTL (a Brazilian team MMA league) coaches selected fighters for the league's inaugural season.
I don't want to get too excited over the Liddell-Silva match-up until I know it's definitely a go, but it's hard not to. Despite consecutive KO losses in Pride to Mirko Filipovic and Dan Henderson, I still regard Wanderlei Silva as one of the finest, most indefatigably ferocious fighters anywhere. I love his glare, his focus, and his furious Chute Box Style. As for Chuck, he can still put you on your ass with one sloppy looking punch.
The Iceman and The Axe Murderer might not be as supremely untouchable as we may have thought a year ago, but if you can think of a more intriguing fight at 205 that involves neither Chuck Liddell nor Wanderlei Silva, I'd love to hear it.

still a very good fight but not as good as it could have been if they were both champs...wandy doesn't need stomps/pride rules to beat chuck...wandy twice did to rampage what rampage did twice to chuck
