"Sources" have told FiveOuncesofPain's Sam Caplan that the next time UFC welterweights Karo "The Heat" Parisyan and Jon Fitch step into the octagon, they'll be most likely be facing one another for an eventual top contender spot.
With the recently dethroned Georges St. Pierre slated to take on Josh Koscheck in August and with champion Matt Serra scheduled to make his first title defense against Matt Hughes in December, the current championship picture has the winning Matt facing either GSP or Koscheck for 170-pound supremacy. After that, it'll be either Parisyan or Fitch who will challenge for the belt.
The 14-2 Fitch has yet to taste defeat in the UFC, turning heads with impressive wins over Brock Larson (who will be facing Carlos Condit for the WEC welterweight championship), Josh Burkman, Thales Lietes, Luigi Fioravanti, and most recently Roan Carniero.
As for Karo Parisyan, many believe that he is long overdue for a championship fight. Fresh off a dominating performance against Josh Burkman last month, Parisyan (17-4) has beaten Dave Strasser, Chris Lytle, Nick Thompson, Drew Fickett, Nich Diaz, and champion Matt Serra with an ever-improving striking game and a peerless judo arsenal.
I'll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
